Are Real Estate Agents Safe?

Do you think law enforcement is effective at protecting its citizens ?

We all would like to think that it is the responsibility of the law enforcement to protect its citizens but let's be real folks it is an impossible task. First the ratio of policemen to its citizens is just to disproportioned and there is no way law enforcement can predict when and where a crime will occur and be there to prevent it. They can show their presence with the hopes of deterring crime but they can't prevent it.

With the current economic situation, joblessness, high poverty rate, undereducation and the like it makes for a desperate situation for some coupled with the high rate of felons being release from prison after paying their debt to society with no prospects for a better way crime is bound to rise.

It is the responsibility of the individual to take control of their lives and protect themselves. First they must utilize commons sense approaches to prevent crime in the first place. You would be surprised how many times I have seen people who live in the suburbs come to the city and leave their car doors unlocked , leave valuables exposed for the viewing of any passerby (ie, radar detectors, gps device, ipods, computers and even purses). This is just want the criminals are looking for ..an easy target. It is not personal they are preditors of opportunities.

Criminals like the low hanging fruit. The path of least resistance. Don't make it easy for them whether you are in your home , work or socially you should always take precaution. Another thing I frequently observed as a resident in the historical and theatre districts is how many women that would jog with ipods and earplugs. Especially when there are products on the market like Mace HotWalkers or PL-6 personal alarm with flashlight. How do you expect to be totally aware of your environment when you can't hear if a criminal was near or approaching.

We as citizens must do a better job of being aware of our environment, using common sense, precaution, and other basic preventative measures so we don't become victims of crime. There are many lethal and non-lethal methods to protect ourselfs and our families. I prefer the non-lethal way because taking a human life is a tradegy that effects many lives and the emotional turmoil that it would cause is not worth anything in the world especially if it is over material things.

In summary the most effective law enforcement regardless of how large the force is can't protect individual citizens unless you have a 24/7/365 personal detail. There is just too much ground to cover and crimes occur everywhere and they can't be predicted or prevented. However, they can be deterred. It is up to the individual citizens to take control of defending themselves and their families
